Learn Why Yahoo Mail Not Working on Your Device and its Fixes

There are several users who prefer to use Yahoo for receiving and sending emails. Despite the user-friendly features and good performance, users experience issues with their Yahoo account. 

The problem mostly arises at the time of sending or receiving emails. But, you can face this issue while trying to log into your Yahoo account as well. Moreover, your AOL app might fail to respond or freeze your device. 

This problem is found to occur in Windows, Mac, Android, and iPhones. Perhaps you have come across the problem but have failed to solve it due to the lack of appropriate solutions. So, here are the correct ways of resolving this issue. 

Effective Ways to Fix Yahoo Mail not Working Manually:

Here are the various ways to fix the unresponsive Yahoo application on your device. 

Method 1: Look for System Update

We have discussed the system update separately for the widely used Operating Systems. 

Windows

  1. Go to the Start menu and open the Settings window.
  2. Move to the ‘Update and Security’ section and choose the ‘Windows Update’ option. 
  3. Click on the ‘Check for Updates’ button so that Windows can automatically check the available update and install it on your PC. 

Mac

  1. Open the Settings app and select the ‘About Phone’ option. 
  2. Choose System Update and tap on the ‘Install’ button to get the available updates. 
  3. Wait until Mac finishes downloading and installing the update. 
  4. Close your AOL account and reopen it to ensure that it is no longer having any issue. 

Android

  1. Make sure your device is connected to the internet. In case you are using WiFi, then check the stability of the network. 
  2. Go to Settings option and click on the ‘About Phone’ option. 
  3. Tap on the ‘Update’ button to find the latest update. 
  4. Click on the ‘Install Now/Reboot and Install/Install System Software’ button depending upon the Operating System you are using.
  5. After finishing the update, reboot your device and sign in to your Yahoo account. 

iOS

  1. So, if you aren’t using mobile data, then connect your device to a stable network. 
  2. Open the Settings app and tap on the ‘General’ tab. 
  3. Choose ‘Software Update’ and hit on the ‘Download and Install’ button. 
  4. If your device is running out of space, then you will receive a popup to clear some data or uninstall certain apps. 
  5. If the data or apps are not so important, then tap on the ‘Continue’ button. 
  6. The update is automatically downloaded and installed on your iOS device. 

Note: If you want to get back the uninstalled apps, then download them again from the App Store. 

Method 2: Force Restart the Yahoo Application

  1. Navigate to Settings and click on ‘Apps’ option.
  2. Locate the Yahoo among the list of applications installed on your device. 
  3. Tap the ‘Force Stop’ button to close the Yahoo application forcefully. 
  4. Restart the Yahoo application and log into your account. 
  5. Hopefully, the problem is not going to repeat itself. 

Method 3: Uninstall the Third-party Antivirus

Third-party applications are often found to be a conflicting factor for other applications. Therefore, uninstall such an application to see whether it solves the issue or not. 

Windows 

  1. Press the Windows key and ‘R’ at the same time to open the Run application. 
  2. Type ‘control’ into the Run dialog box and click ‘OK.’
  3. Navigate to ‘Devices and Printers’ on the Control Panel window. 
  4. Locate the third-party antivirus, right-click on it and select the ‘Uninstall’ option from the context menu. 
  5. Click ‘OK’ on the resulting popup to proceed. 

Mac

  1. Open the Application folder and select the third-party app. 
  2. Right-click on the app and select ‘Move to Trash.’
  3. After uninstalling the application, restart your Mac if prompted. 

Android

  1. Open Settings and select ‘Apps and Notifications.’
  2. Scroll down the list of app and select the third-party antivirus. 
  3. Tap the ‘Uninstall’ button to remove the selection app. 

iOS

  1. Tap and hold the third-party icon until it starts to wiggle. 
  2. Tap ‘x’ appearing at the upper left corner of the app icon. 
  3. Click the ‘Delete’ button and the app will be instantly removed from your device. 

Method 4: Update Yahoo to its Latest Version

Check how can you update Yahoo on the following devices:

Windows

  1. Go to Settings and select ‘App Updates.’
  2. Check the ‘Automatically update my apps’ option and you will come to know if an update is available for Yahoo. 
  3. Then, download and install the update for your Windows PC. 

Mac

  1. Go to the Apps Store and click on the ‘Updates’ tab. 
  2. Tap on the ‘Updates All’ button and Mac displays the available updates. 
  3. If you find an update for Yahoo, then click on the ‘Update’ button next to it. 

Android

  1. Go to Play Store and select ‘My apps and games.’
  2. Yahoo appears among the list of outdated applications.
  3. Tap on the ‘Update’ button next to Yahoo to install the update on your device.

 iOS

  1. Open the Apps Store and tap the ‘Updates’ button. 
  2. If your app is visible, then tap the ‘Update’ button next to it. 
  3. After updating Yahoo see whether it works properly or not.

Method 5: Set Up the SMTP Server

  1. Go to Settings and navigate to the ‘Accounts and Password’ section. 
  2. Click on the ‘Yahoo’ icon and choose ‘Accounts.’
  3. Click ‘Outgoing mail server SMTP’ and go to the ‘Menu.’ 
  4. Select the ‘Other SMTP server’ and enter the correct username and password. 
  5. Move the toggle for the ‘SSL’ option and tap ‘Done’ at the top-right corner. 
  6. Reboot the phone and log into your Yahoo account to ensure that it is working correctly. 

Method 6: Uninstall and Reinstall Yahoo

Check the methods and use the one matching your device. 

Windows 

  1. Open the Control Panel and click ‘Devices and Printers.’
  2. Select Yahoo, right-click on it and choose ‘Uninstall.’
  3. Click ‘OK’ on the confirmation dialog box. 

Mac

  1. Open the Application folder and select the third-party app. 
  2. Right-click on the app and select ‘Move to Trash.’

Android 

  1. Go to Settings and select Apps. 
  2. Select Yahoo and tap on the ‘Uninstall’ button.
