Solution 1: Update Display Drivers

Before you begin, there is an easy way to determine if your laptop screen is flickering due to an outdated display driver or an incompatible application. To find out, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc button on your keyboard at the same time. 

If the Task manager is flickering, then it is occurring due to an outdated display driver. Alternatively, if it doesn’t flicker, then it is being caused due to an incompatible or outdated software. 

In case it is happening due to an outdated display driver, you need to update it by following the steps mentioned below.

Step 1

First, press the Start menu and then type device manager in the search box. Hit the Enter button to open up the Device Manager application on your device.

Step 2

After that, search for the Display driver or Graphics driver from the list. Next, right-click on the display driver.  

Step 3

Here, select Update Driver from the list of options. This will automatically download the latest version of the display driver. Subsequently, it will update the driver as well. Thereafter, restart your system and check whether the problem gets resolved or not. 

Solution 2: Uninstall Incompatible Applications

Solution 3: Update BIOS

As mentioned earlier, your laptop screen could be flickering due to an outdated BIOS. Therefore, you should update the BIOS in order to resolve the issue. Follow the steps provided below to do so. 

Step 1

Open your default browser and go to the manufacturer’s website. There, enter your device’s model name and number. Next, head over to the Driver and Downloads section. 

Step 2

Thereafter, select the BIOS/UEFI from the list that will appear on the system screen. You need to download the latest version of BIOS from the website. 

Step 3

After the BIOS has been downloaded, run the installer as an Administrator. Follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation process after which your system will restart automatically. Finally, check whether the laptop screen is still flickering or not. 

Solution 4: Troubleshoot Hardware Related Problems

If none of the above solutions help to fix your issue, then it could be happening due to a hardware issue. You can check this be tilting the laptop screen slightly upwards and downwards. See if the screen has stopped flickering at a certain degree.
