        ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

After renaming these, you should start the service once again. To start the service, type the following commands net start bits, net start wuauserv, net start appidsvc, and net start cryptsvc and then hit the Enter button after typing each.
