Adobe Reader relies on Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable packages to work on Windows. Some users have also reported receiving this error just after a Windows update. 

Thus, you can remove the error by repairing Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable as instructed below:

  1. Press Windows logo key and ‘R’ simultaneously on the keyboard to invoke the Run application. 
  2. Then, type ‘appwiz.cpl’ into the Run window and press ‘Enter’ to access all ‘Programs and Features.’
  3. Locate Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from the list of installed applications.
  4. Next, right-click on the particular package and select ‘Change’ from the drop-down menu. 
  5. Tap on the ‘Repair’ button on the next window and click ‘OK” on the popup dialog box. 
  6. After completing this setup, repeat the above steps with remaining Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 packages as well. 
  7. When you are done with the entire process, restart the system and reopen Acrobat Reader or a PDF file to check the condition.

Solution 2: Enable DirectPlay in Legacy Components

  6. You will then receive the message that Windows has completed the request changes when the Operating System has enabled DirectPlay. 
  7. Close all the windows and reboot the system.
  8. Finally, launch Adobe Reader to ensure that you are no longer encountering the error code 0xc0000022. 

Solution 3: Check the Permission Settings of Adobe Reader

  1. Right-click on the Adobe Reader shortcut on your desktop and select ‘Properties’ from the context menu. 
  2. In case if you haven’t created a shortcut of Adobe Reader, then navigate to the folder where you have already installed Adobe. 
  3. Right-click the’.exe’ file and select ‘Properties’ to open a new window. 
  4. Click on the ‘Edit’ option under the ‘Security’ tab on the ‘Properties’ window. 
  5. Find out your account, select it and check the box for ‘Full Control.’
  6. Hit the ‘Apply’ and then the ‘OK’ button to save the changes. 
  7. Close the ‘Properties’ window and reopen Adobe Reader to ensure that it is working correctly.
